Consultation with Martial Arts Industry on 'Reportable Conduct'

Recent changes to NSW legislation in the area of reportable conduct will have wide implications for the martial arts industry. Discussions with representatives from NSW Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation have highlighted issues for the industry in the area of child protection, sexual assault, harassment and related conduct.

During 2005 the MAIA will commence an 'industry consultation' of reportable conduct in the martial arts industry in NSW. While based in NSW it may have national implications.

The review will firstly map the extent of this problem in the martial arts industry and then seek to set up mechanisms and procedures to identify and deal with these issues in our industry. The Women in Martial Arts Organisation has already indicated its support and co-operation in this project.

The outcomes of this project will be shared with all industry participants and stake-holders.
